On Monday the 3rd August, 2015 Elim Christian College went to the zoo because we had to learn things for our PBL groups. There are four PBL groups. Each group is learning about a different thing
- Native birds
- Introduced species
- The weta
- NZ forest animals.
At the beginning of the day we went on the Howick and Eastern Bus to the Auckland Zoo. First we looked at the animals and some of the birds. After lunch we had an education session. First we went with the educator, Sue, to a room where she told us about a few endangered birds. They are trying to rescue them by putting them on islands, so pests like mice, rats, stoats can’t get them. Secondly we went to look at some NZ native birds in an aviary with the educator, Hohepa. We saw Kea, weka and native pigeon. Then we took the bus back to school.
My favourite part was seeing a kiwi for the first time. I really enjoyed an excellent day at the Zoo.
I really enjoyed reading your recount of your visit to Auckland zoo. I haven’t been there for such a long time. Have you seen any native birds in your garden?
Well done Grace
This is a great way of celebrating your experiences and learning- Keep it up
Wow I love going to the Zoo. I would love to go to a zoo in Australia and I would love to see that snakes are endangered species and didn’t like sitting on our garden fence. We even rang a man and asked him to take our snake away but he said Sammy, yes we gave him a name, was a good snake so he wouldn’t take him. I don’t think there are any snakes that are good snakes. What do you think?
